The Vancouver Goldeneyes jumped to fifth in league standings with their second straight win, this time a 3-1 victory over the Seattle Torrent. The game took place in front of 11,612 fans at Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado as part of the PWHL Takeover Tour.
It was a strong showing in the stands for Denver on the same day as the AFC Championship also being played in Denver.
Playing the bulk of the opening frame deadlocked, Jenn Gardiner broke the tie with only five seconds remaining in the period. The puck came to Gardner off an offensive zone face-off resulting from an icing call against the Torrent, and she beat Seattle's Hannah Murphy.
In the second period, Jessie Eldridge knotted the score at 1-1 on a breakaway.
For the second straight game, Izzy Daniel scored the game winner for the Goldeneyes. She tallied just over six minutes into the third to give the Goldeneyes their second lead of the game, one they wouldn't relinquish.
Michelle Karvinen scored an insurance marker for Vancouver and Emerance Maschmeyer shut the door in net turning aside 33-of-34 shots she faced in the gmae.
The Torrent and Goldeneyes join all PWHL teams in playing their final games before the league’s first-ever Olympic break on Wednesday, January 28 with Seattle visiting Ottawa and Vancouver heading to Minnesota.
