Hilary Knight was officially named PWHL Boston’s captain with Jamie Lee Rattray and Megan Keller as assistants.
PWHL Boston has announced their three captains ahead of their season opener against Minnesota tomorrow night.
Hilary Knight will be the first captain in franchise history alongside assistant captains Jamie Lee Rattray and Megan Keller. Boston Bruins legendary captain Patrice Bergeron made the announcement on Tuesday morning at the Boston Sports Institute, who will also be taking part in a ceremonial puck drop at the Tsongas Center prior to tomorrow’s season opener.
Knight is no stranger to wearing a “C” on her jersey, most recently captaining the United States to a gold medal in the 2023 World Championships. She was also an alternate captain for team USA in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games where the team captured silver.
Knight, recognized as one of the world’s best women’s hockey players, hopes to bring her storied resume to Boston this season. The 2023 IIHF Female Player of the Year led the 2023 World Championships in scoring with eight goals, holding the record for goals in the tournament with 61 throughout her 13 appearances.
Rattray joins the leadership group after winning gold in the 2022 Olympics for Team Canada. The three-time CWHL All Star played five seasons between the Brampton Thunder and Markham Thunder, recording a whopping 39 points in the 2017-18 season. The 31-year old played for seasons of NCAA hockey at Clarkson University, rocking the “A” her senior season.
Keller also has her fair share of leadership experience, elected alternate captain on the US National Team for the 2022-23 season. She posted nine points in the 2022 World Championships and four points in the 2022 Olympics. Keller was also an assistant captain for Boston College, where she played four seasons for the Eagles including a monster season in 2015-16, notching 52 points.
The leadership trio will look to start their season in the win column in their season opener tomorrow night against Minnesota.
