Hilary Knights' 28th points of the season set a new single season standard in the PWHL. Last year, Natalie Spooner led the PWHL in scoring with 27 points in 24 games. With Knight's 28th point, which came in a 4-2 Boston Fleet loss to the Toronto Sceptres, set a new single season scoring record for the league.
Knight opened the scoring in the first period with her 14th goal of the season. She added to that total in the third period scoring her 15th of the year, which also stood as her record setting point.
In front of 6,028 fans at Agganis Arena in Boston, the Toronto Sceptres rallied from a 1-0 deficit in the third period to take over. At 4:07 of the third period, Daryl Watts scored her 9th of the season to tie the game 1-1. A minute and a half later, Hayley Scamurra celebrated not only the go-ahead goal, but also breathed a sigh of relief breaking her season long slump. Scamurra scored her first of the campaign and first as a member of the Sceptres following a blockbuster trade earlier this season.
Renata Fast added to her season totals, which lead all PWHL defenders, scoring an insurance marker midway through the third. Laura Kluge picked up her first PWHL point assisting on the goal.
After Knight responded to give life to the Fleet, Daryl Watts iced the game late with her 10th of the year on the power play.
The win kept Toronto in contention for first overall, but dropped Boston eight points back of first place Montreal.
“I think a few shifts in a row we couldn’t get the puck out, ends up in the back of our net," said Boston head coach Courtney Kessel of her team's third period. "It’s from below the goal line, kind of hits off [Aerin] Frankel and goes in the net. It’s a little bit unfortunate, but you can never take a shift off in this league. Anything can happen in this league, so you have to show up every shift."
Boston is back in action Saturday in St. Louis meeting Ottawa for the final stop on the PWHL Takeover Tour. Toronto plays Minnesota on Sunday.
