The New York Sirens made their first signing of the offseason agreeing to terms with Jincy Roese. The 28-year-old defender spent the past two seasons as a member of the Ottawa Charge.
The 5-foot-6 Roese saw a significant offensive uptick this season recording three goals and 14 points in 27 games, good for fifth in league scoring among defenders.
The signing unquestionably gives the New York Sirens one of, if not the best defensive group in the PWHL. During the expansion process New York protected Ella Shelton, Micah Zandee-Hart, and Maja Nylen Persson, and saw fellow top four defender Jaime Bourbonnais also slip through the process. New York also still have Ally Simpson and Lauren Bernard under rights.
Adding Roese gives New York seven defenders, an unprecedented depth at the position following an expansion process that saw multiple bluelines in the PWHL decimated, including Roese's former Ottawa defensive group.
A former captain at Ohio State, Roese was twice named best defender at the U-18 IIHF World Championships, and following her NCAA career, Roese represented Team USA at two World Championships and the 2022 Olympic Games, winning a trio of silver medals.
New York lost Alex Carpenter, Corinne Schroeder, Jessie Eldridge, and Gabby Rosenthal in expansion.
