Klára Peslarová made her PWHL debut on Sunday afternoon. She saved all 15 shots she faced and earned the Fleet a huge win over Minnesota.

Peslarová was listed as the backup goalie for Sunday’s game, but following a tough start, Fleet head coach Courtney Kessel decided to give Peslarová a chance to put the Fleet in the game.

Emma Söderberg got the start in net for the Fleet. She previously had started two games against Minnesota, not playing her best in either. Her third start against Minnesota was no different. Although the goals that slipped by her weren’t the most glamorous, Kessel decided the team needed a change if they wanted a chance at the three points.

Klára Peslarová was sitting in the locker room eating an orange when she found out she would be going into the game.

“In the time I was just enjoying my orange and I was like I needed to eat it quickly,” Peslarová said, “I was zoned in. There's nothing special I needed to do or specifically prepare. Just be ready and be there for the girls.”

Peslarová didn’t allow a single goal in two periods on the fifteen shots she faced. She became the first goaltender in the PWHL this season to win in her first career appearance. She also is the first goaltender in PWHL history to win a game after entering to relieve the starting goalie.

Fleet fans have been eager to see Peslarová in net since the team signed her. Peslarová is the Czech National Team’s starting goaltender, and has a similar style of play to Aerin Frankel, Fleet’s starting goalie.

Peslarová was invited to Boston’s training camp earlier this season. She has represented Czechia at the Olympics and in six IIHF Women’s World Championships. Prior to this season she played in the SDHL.

When signing with the team she said, “I am very grateful and honored to be part of the Boston Fleet. I am looking forward to this season as a member of PWHL. This is a big step and I am really excited.”

Peslarová proved herself on Sunday. She ended the game with a shutout over the two periods she played. However, she was immediately challenged once she stepped foot onto the ice. The Minnesota Frost thought they had scored on her at the beginning of the second period, however the call on the ice was “no goal”. Following that ruling, the Fleet scored four unanswered goals.

As for her mentality heading into the game, Peslarová said, “It's like a step by step. I knew what my position was at the beginning of the season and I just pushed every practice, [and] prepared the hardest as I could. It's just baby steps that I took, and today I was there.”

Klára Peslarová took a major step in her career, leading the Fleet out of a 2-0 deficit to a 4-2 win.

Head Coach Courtney Kessel was pleased with the win and said, “it’s been great to get some big wins here and we have some awesome fans. I think this is home for us and we are finally settling in.”

Peslarová is still waiting to start a game, however finding out she was playing while eating an orange is a start. After she ate the orange, she said to herself, “it's gonna be good. I tried to calm myself [because it’s a] big stage professionally. I just tried to calm myself and be there for the girls.”
