The PWHL has arrived in Toronto. Players will participate in a variety of activities across the city of Toronto, including events tied to the NHL's All-Star weekend. Here's a look at everything that's happening.
Kendall Coyne Schofield of PWHL Minnesota and Brianne Jenner of PWHL Ottawa will serve as team captains in the Canadian Tire PWHL 3-on-3 Showcase, set to take place tonight at 8 p.m. ET as part of NHL All-Star Thursday. The forwards were voted as captains by their respective Showcase teammates from Team King and Team Kloss.
“It’s an honor to be voted as captain for Team King by my teammates,” said Coyne Schofield. “Every player on Team King is worthy of this honor. I’m excited to compete with, and against, all of these incredible players and people who have been a driving force in the creation of the PWHL.”
“I feel very honoured to be selected by my peers,” said Jenner. “I'm so inspired by the other women on Team Kloss and I'm very excited to share the ice with them and enjoy this experience together. I know we are all very proud of our new league, and the momentum within our sport. It's great to be here to celebrate with the NHL and their stars this week and have a platform to share our game with more hockey fans.”
All 24 players participating in the PWHL's 3-on-3 Showcase tonight as part of NHL All-Star weekend were on the ice this morning for an open practice at the outdoor rink in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square. The practice was run by Cassie Campbell-Pascall and Meghan Duggan, and featured other special guests on the ice including Canadian Olympic legend Tessa Virtue who will be an assistant coach at tonight's showcase.
Team King took at 5-3 win at the NHL All-Star Thursday festivities, with Savannah Harmon recording five points in the PWHL's 3-on-3 Showcase.
