The Minnesota Whitecaps have locked in Liz Schepers, one of the team's top players last season as a PHF rookie. Schepers' two-year deal will pay her a total value of $104,000 this season and $120,500 next year.

“Playing professional hockey is truly a dream come true, and it only feels right that I get to continue to do that with Minnesota,” Schepers said in a team news release. “Growing up idolizing the Whitecaps, this is an opportunity I'll never take for granted. I believe in the team and culture we are building in Minnesota. We have an environment that not only pushes me to develop as an individual, but that will continue to raise the bar for professional hockey,”

Schepers scored 14 points in 22 games for the Whitecaps last season after scoring 48 in 38 games in her final season at Ohio State, helping the Buckeyes win a national championship.

Schepers also appeared with Team USA's senior national team at the Rivalry Series last season.

For the Whitecaps, securing the 24-year-old was a priority this offseason.

“I think she brings a lot of depth through the middle and as a wing. She’s calm under pressure and is able to be a quality two-way forward,” said Whitecaps general manager Chi-Yin Tse.

“I think having a year under her belt will help her next two years to establish herself as a workhorse player that eats up minutes and gives us the ability to have a lot of depth on our roster.”

“Her presence amongst the team is an important gel piece and I think it brings continuity to our group and sets the standard for our locker room culture,” he said. “Liz has the ability to speak her mind and back it up on the ice, too. Her teammates respect her both on and off the ice.”
