The Metropolitan Riveters have signed a pair of returning players in Amanda Pelkey and Minttu Tuominen. Both deals are one-year contracts. Financial terms were not immediately disclosed.
Pelkey, a former Olympic and World Championship gold medalist with Team USA scored 19 points in 24 games this season with the Riveters.
"Amanda's elite playmaking ability can elevate any line in the PHF and her experiences at the highest levels of the game are valuable on the ice and in the locker room,” Head Coach Venla Hovi in a team news release. “She is a team first, selfless player who is looking to take her game to the next level."
Pelkey has five gold medals wearing a Team USA jersey, along with a silver. She also won an Isobel Cup with the Boston Pride prior to spending three seasons in the PWHPA.
“I am extremely honored and excited to be joining the Riveters again this upcoming season,” said Pelkey. “I am looking forward to continuing to be a part of a culture that strives for professionalism and accountability on a consistent basis. All while enjoying every moment with some of the best athletes in the world.”
“As an organization, we truly offer a unique experience for fans and are tied closely within the community. These factors ultimately drove my decision to re-sign with the Riveters and continue my professional career in New Jersey.”
Minttu Tuominen has three Olympic bronze medals and five World Championship medals representing Team Finland.
"There aren't many players who are as calm, collected and consistent as Minttu,” said Hovi in the team's release. “She is the backbone of our defense, but a very valuable shooter offensively. She brings experience and poise to the Riveters and is a great example of professionalism to any player.”
"I’m thrilled to be back with the Rivs,” said Tuominen. “I loved our locker room even through tough times, and believe we have some unfinished business to take care of. Another thing I enjoyed my first year was our involvement in the community from skating with Hockey in Harlem at Central Park to other community outreach events.”
The announcement comes shortly after the team announced the two-year contract of captain Madison Packer.
