Minnesota Whitecaps captain Sydney Brodt has signed a two-year contract to stay with the team.

The Minnesota Whitecaps and team captain Sydney Brodt have agreed on a two-year deal to keep Brodt in Minnesota.

The former PWHPA member and Team USA national team member, winning a World Championship gold in 2019, was in her first season with the PHF.

“It's such a huge honor to play for my home state and to live out my dream as being a professional hockey player,” Brodt said in a team press release. “It has been unbelievable to be a part of the growth of the PHF this past season. I'm so proud of where the league is going and I'm looking forward to the season.”

Brodt represented USA this past season at the Rivalry Series against Canada.

After scoring 29 goals and 56 points in 36 games with Linkoping in the SDHL in 2021-2022, Brodt talled nine points in 21 games with the Whitecaps last season.

According to Whitecaps general manager Chi-Yin Tse, Brodt, who also spent three seasons captaining Minnesota State in the NCAA, brings a veteran presence and leadership to the roster.

“Syd has a heart of a lion and wants to be part of a team that works together. She is a leader and has the ability to bring a team together on-and-off the ice," said Tse.

“I expect her to be a leading voice in the locker room and someone who brings new players under her wings."
