PWHL New York has named a new head coach ahead of the 2024-2025 season hiring Greg Fargo.
PWHL New York has named Greg Fargo as their new head coach.
Fargo is the winningest head coach in Colgate women’s hockey program history, announced that he is resigning from his position at the end of June to take the head coaching role with New York.
“Leaving Colgate is bittersweet,” Fargo said. “The people – especially our players and staff – have made the past 12 years incredibly rewarding. The Colgate community has been a significant part of my family's life, and we've built relationships and memories that will last a lifetime. It has been an honor to serve as the head coach of this program, and I am deeply grateful to every player and coach, past and present, who contributed to realizing our vision.
“I know the Colgate women's ice hockey community takes pride in the program we have built together. I am immensely grateful for the support from current and former players, their families, my colleagues, the administration at Colgate, and the Hamilton community.”
He leaves Colgate with a 334-170-39 (.651) career record, including 255-147-34 at Colgate, the highest winning percentage (.624) in program history. Fargo joins the professional ranks, where he will reunite in New York with former players Jessie Eldridge ’19 and Olivia Zafuto ’19. The newly-formed PWHL, now in its second season, consists of six franchises, three each from the United States and Canada.
“As I move on to this new chapter with PWHL New York, I carry forward the lessons and experiences that have shaped me,” Fargo continued. “I am excited to continue growing as a coach and to pursue new challenges in the premier league in women's hockey.”
New York parted ways with head coach Howie Draper shortly after the end of the inaugural 2024 season. Draper came to the club from the University of Alberta, where he will return this season.
PWHL New York finished last in the league this season finishing 5-4-3-12 collecting 26 points in 24 games. They earned the first overall pick through the league's Gold Plan winning two games after they were eliminated.
