PWHL New York became the first team to be officially eliminated from the PWHL playoff race, and will now instead play for draft order points under the gold plan.
PWHL New York is the first team to be eliminated from the PWHL playoffs, activating them in the Gold Plan. With the playoffs no longer a possibility, New York will now attempt to accumulate points in their final three games toward earning the first overall pick and first pick each round in the draft order.
New York was officially eliminated losing to PWHL Montreal 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Montreal's Catherine Daoust opened the scoring in the first period with a fluke bounce off the glass catching Corinne Schroeder out of her net as she went to retrieve Daoust's dump in.
In the second period, Kristin O'Neill remained the hot hand scoring on the power play to extend her point streak. Catherine Dubois and Laura Stacey extended Montreal's lead to 4-0.
New York would come back with goals from Ella Shelton and Alexandra Labelle but it wouldn't be enough. In the dying minutes of the game Montreal's Melodie Daoust scored her third of the season into the empty net to make it 5-2 Montreal.
The loss eliminated New York from playoff contention. They will now play for draft order points under the Gold Plan.
