The PWHL, a new combined league forming between players from the PHF and PWHPA has lower salary ranges than many expected, which could impact players.
With the first numbers coming out in reports regarding salary in the new professional women's hockey league, here's a look at how the financials compare and will stack up.
USA and Canadian national team members within the new league will also make roughly $100,000 per season in addition to their contracts in the new league as part of their national team stipends.
The above numbers are based on the reported 3% annual increase (compounded) over the eight season term of the collective bargaining agreement.
In comparison, here is a look at what we know from the PHF this season:
The PHF did not have a "maximum" salary, but Daryl Watts had the top salary in the league at $150,000 this season followed by contracts of Kennedy Marchment ($130,000), Kacey Bellamy ($122,000), Liz Schepers ($112,250 AAV), Kati Tabin ($110,000), Taylor Girard ($110,000), and Allie Munroe ($105,000). While those are the reported contracts, many players across the league were also making six figures, including three in Boston according to sources, while dozens more across the league would be making more than the new PWHL's $80,000 maximum.
Similarly, at least two teams, Boston and Metropolitan confirmed no player was making the $30,000 league minimum. In Boston, a self prescribed team minimum of $40,000 existed.
