Ottawa Charge forward Rebecca Leslie and goaltender Gwyneth Philips joined U9 to U15 girls at a four-day summer camp to help players develop their skills and build confidence.
Clarence-Rockland Arena in Ottawa's east end hosted the Ottawa Charge's second Summer Youth Development Camp, featuring forward Rebecca Leslie and goaltender Gwyneth Philips, as part of a four-day camp "to help players grow their skills, build confidence, and learn directly from professional players and coaches."
On day two, 54 girls from U9 to U15 took part in shooting, passing, and goaltending drills led by Leslie and Philips, alongside associate coach Greg Houde and grassroots growth specialist coach Nicole Lowe.
"Any camp I go to, I feel like it's a lot of the same faces, which is just awesome to see," said Leslie. "They're super keen, they want to get better, they enjoy being on the ice. To watch them grow each year is special."
The morning's agenda was packed, and saw players split into two groups, each having one hour of on-ice time with the Charge, followed by an opportunity for autographs. The afternoon brought the groups into the classroom and offered various team-building activities.
"It's really cool to see the next generation of players learning and trying to get better," said Philips. "As the years go on, to see those same girls keep getting better, it's been really fun."
The Summer Youth Development Camp continues through July 30. From August 4-7, the Charge and Toronto Sceptres will host a joint camp in Kingston, Ontario, with Gwyneth Philips and Brooke McQuigge representing Ottawa's side.
