The Rivalry Series and international competition have seen large crowds when it comes to women's hockey, but in a professional league? Attendance was generally limited by venues and marketing.

This year however, as the PWHL season approaches, records will fall.

On their opening day of sales, PWHL Ottawa crossed 4200 tickets sold.

Less than 24-hours later, that number has surpassed 5800, already signalling the home opener for PWHL Ottawa on January 2 will set a new North American professional women's hockey attendance. It's looking more likely that Ottawa will sell out the 7500 seat TD Place Arena for their opener.

PWHL Toronto opens the season January 1 hosting New York, but with a capacity just over 2600 at Mattamy, Toronto will not be able to break that record.

Last year, Montreal Force set a new PHF record with a near capacity crowd at the 4,114 seat Verdun Auditorium to witness the team's inaugural game. They drew strong crowds across the province as they toured from city to city.

The PWHPA also set a new attendance record last year at their St. Catherines, Ontario, with 4,301 fans watching Team Adidas play Team Sonnet.

The 2021-2022 SDHL championship game between Lulea and Brynas drew a record 7,765 fans for that league.

With several larger venues in the league including the 17,954 Xcel Energy Center, 10,000 Place Bell, 17,255 UBS Arena, and 10,000 seat Total Mortgage Arena, not to mention potential neutral site locations, the PWHL could continue to break records as the inaugural season progresses.
