The PWHL will host their inaugural draft September 18 at CBC headquarters in Toronto, beginning at 1pm. The draft will be streamed live on CBC Gem, as well as CBC Sports and Radio-Canada's YouTube pages.

“The inaugural PWHL Draft is a monumental event in our league’s history and a day the players have been waiting for with great anticipation and excitement,” said Jayna Hefford, PWHL Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations. “Our appreciation is extended to our Founding Partner Canadian Tire Corporation for their support, and to CBC/Radio-Canada for helping make this a special experience in the iconic Barbara Frum Atrium, and for our fans tuning in live.”

According to a league press release, CBC Sports' Andi Petrillo will host the opening four rounds of the draft.

Fans are invited to greet the players and VIPs who will be walking the PWHL purple carpet prior to the start of the Draft outside CBC headquarters.

Minnesota will pick first overall, followed by Toronto and Boston, with Minnesota expected to choose University of Minnesota and Team USA standout Taylor Heise with the first pick.

Players who applied for compassionate circumstances heading into the draft received confirmation Wednesday morning related to whether their application to stay in their home market was approved or denied. While these players will appear on the draft declaration list, teams from outside their selected market will not be able to choose those players. The list of approved compassionate circumstance players will not be made public, meaning some players presumed to be key targets in the draft might not be selected, or not chosen until late in the draft. Those granted compassionate circumstances, however, are not guaranteed a roster spot in their desired market and may be required to compete for a spot as an undrafted player at tryouts.

The Hockey News will have pick by pick coverage and analysis on the day of the draft.
