    PWHL Draft Profile: Megan Carter

Don't expect Megan Carter to lead the rush every night in the PWHL as we've seen many defenders do in the inaugural campaign. Don't expect Megan Carter to find herself out of position, or abandoning her defensive responsibilities as we've seen many defenders do in the PWHL's inaugural campaign.

Clearly stated, there is a definitive need for blueliners like Megan Carter in the PWHL, which is why she'll be one of the first NCAA blueliners off the board in the 2024 Draft.

The 2023 Hockey East Defender of the Year captained Northeastern this season, and she's a steadying, physical presence on the blueline. Carter will need to find a balance with her physicality to keep her out of the box, but in the PWHL where checking and rough play have become the norm, Carter's propensity toward that style should help her thrive.

This season at Northeastern Carter was the backbone of a team that lost their offensive star power. She recorded a career high 24 points in 34 games for Northeastern, and finished the year +19.

A former member of Canada's U-18 national team winning gold in 2019, Carter remains on Hockey Canada's radar, and could end up with a Canadian team as each of Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal will be looking for defensive help. At times Carter gives off Jocelyne Larocque vibes on the ice in the way she balances tenacity with a puck moving and responsible style. It's a good comparison to be made for Carter as she projects into round 3-4 of the PWHL Draft.
