The PWHL's opening game was viewed by 2.9 million people in Canada on January 1, and the league's YouTube channel is drawing hundreds of thousands of views per game.
The PWHL's New Year's Day opener drew 2.9 million viewers in Canada across CBC, Sportsnet, and TSN. The game between Toronto and New York was played at a sold out Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
During the second period of the game, a peak 1.113 million viewers were watching the game. It was the highest viewed sports program of the day across all three networks.
“The enthusiastic response to our historic opening game reflects Canada’s national interest in our sport, our outstanding athletes and the PWHL,” said Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member. “We truly hear the statement our viewing audience made Monday, and we cherish the level of engagement shown. We will work even more intently with our broadcast partners to build the PWHL community through the quality productions and storytelling our great fans deserve.”
On YouTube, where the league streams all games for free, the opening game has been viewed more than 132,000 times, while Montreal versus Ottawa has been viewed 131,000 times, and Minnesota versus Boston 138,000 times on the platform.
