The PWHLPA made a statement reacting to the NHL's decision to ban on-ice support for the LGBTQ+ community.

The NHL announced to teams this week that not only would Pride jerseys be banned this season, so would the use of Pride tape.
The PWHLPA reacted to the NHL's decision condemning the move, which many are deeming a step backward in hockey's efforts for inclusion, equity, diversity, and justice.
"The Professional Women's Hockey League Players Association is disappointed and saddened to learn of the NHL's decision to ban on-ice support for community causes," the PWHLPA's social media post read. "To grow the game, we must come together to create an inclusive, supportive environment for all hockey fans, players, and staff. While this decision sets back years of progress, we remain steadfast in our support of the LGBTQ+ community. Hockey is, and always will be, for everyone."
The NHL's decision came as a reaction to a handful of players refusing to wear Pride jerseys during warmups in the 2022-2023 season.
Also speaking out on the issue was new PWHLPA executive director Brian Burke.
Burke penned a note to the NHL, which he posted on social media stating "This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI."
