According to a report by The Athletic's Michael Russo, PWHL team names and logos may not be complete in time for puck drop this season.
According to a report by Michael Russo of The Athletic, there's no guarantee PWHL teams will have names or logos in time for opening night of the inaugural season.
As Russo wrote in an article focused on Minnesota and their general manager Natalie Darwitz, "there’s no guarantee any of the six teams will have a team name and logo by opening night."
According to Russo, even if team's do have a logo and name, jerseys will feature the market name diagonaly across the jersey front, perhaps with a logo on the shoulder patch.
According to Darwitz, she's been involved with conversations with a Los Angeles marketing firm tasked with selecting team names and logos. As she stated in her interview with The Athletic, getting the name, color scheme, and logo right, is crucial.
"I told them, ‘No pressure, but getting a name right in Minnesota is a big deal. We take pride in our team names.’”
Earlier this offseason, the PWHL assigned colors to each of the six franchises. Those colors could be tied to team names and logos, or they could be place holders for the jerseys featuring New York, Boston, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, and Minnesota across the front.
In the days following the announcement of the PWHL, ownership representative and PWHL board member Stan Kasten stated team names and logos were in the works. If those logos and names are done in time for puck drop however, is yet to be seen.
