Hilary Knight recalls a special night of an attendance record and personal recognition at Seattle's Climate Change Arena, where her Boston Fleet will return for the PWHL Takeover Tour this weekend.
In 2022 Team USA set a meaningful mark. The team set a new American women's hockey attendance record for a national team game with 14,551 fans streaming into Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena.
Prior to that game, USA's Hilary Knight received a gold stick to commemorate her own record, breaking the women's IIHF World Championship all-time scoring record. Now, Knight and her PWHL team, the Boston Fleet will get the chance to return to what she called a "special venue."
"To be honest I have yet to experience a crowd like the one that we played in front of at Climate Pledge," said Knight. "I mean that was so special, and I know as we get along and get more established in the community here in the Greater Boston area we're going to have something similar, but Seattle holds a special place in my mind and that's why I'm super excited hopefully to be able to share with other teammates whether it's on the fleet or the Montreal team."
"What an incredible arena, built for sound, so it's super loud in there, you can really feel all the emotions of the game, so it's definitely a special venue for us."
Knight has been leading Boston this season sitting tied for the league lead with four goals, and tied for third in league scoring with seven points.
Puck drop between the Montreal Victoire and Boston Fleet at Seattle's Climate Change Arena is at 1pm PST on January 5.
