Ottawa product Samantha Cogan scored her first career PWHL goal for Toronto in front of her hometown crowd against PWHL Ottawa.
Scoring your first PWHL goal is a memorable moment for any athlete. Scoring it in a win against your hometown team is even more special. That was the exact situation for Sam Cogan as she scored her first career PWHL goal in a 5-2 PWHL Toronto win over Ottawa.
Cogan is one of only a handful of Ottawa area born players in the PWHL, but she made the most of her visit to her hometown Saturday scoring Toronto's fourth goal of the game in front of a franchise record 8447 fans in Ottawa. She scored in the second period on a writer from the slot.
"It felt great, like especially being in my hometown Ottawa here," Cogan said following the game.
Cogan played her youth hockey for the Ottawa Jr. 67s and Nepean Wildcats. The opportunity to play in front of girls and women from Ottawa is one professional women's hockey players from the area haven't been able to experience until this season.
"Hopefully they can see me out there, hopefully I can inspire them," Cogan said about young women's hockey players in attendance.
While the goal was Cogan's first goal or point of the season, she's played valuable checking line minutes for Toronto this season providing energy and defensive reliability. The physical forward.
