Allie Munroe, Blayre Turnbull, and Troy Ryan are a trio of Nova Scotia products who will all be core members of PWHL Toronto.
Nova Scotia is known for some of hockey's biggest stars. On the men's side it's players like Sydney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. On the women's side, long time Canadian national team member Blayre Turnbull leads the charge.
This season with PWHL Toronto, Turnbull will be joined by a pair of fellow Nova Scotians in defender Allie Munroe and head coach Troy Ryan.
Turnbull, a Stellarton, Nova Scotia product, was signed to a three-year contract by Toronto during the initial 10-day free agency period.
Soon after general manager Gina Kingsbury announced the hiring of Troy Ryan, Canada's national team head coach as PWHL Toronto's coach. Ryan is from Spryfield, Nova Scotia and spent years coaching junior and university hockey in the province.
Finally, at the PWHL Draft, Toronto selected Yarmouth, Nova Scotia's Allie Munroe in the ninth round, 50th overall. Munroe was a cornerstone of the PHF's Connecticut Whale the past two seasons, and at an introductory press conference following her selection took an opportunity to discuss the Nova Scotia connections.
