The PWHL playoff race will all come down to a trio of games on the final day of the season.
As it stands, each and every position from first to fifth remains up for grabs with one game remaining for each of the league's six teams.
Currently, the Ottawa Charge, Minnesota Frost, and Boston Fleet are trying to secure playoff spots, while the Montreal Victoire and Toronto Sceptres have positioning in the standings on the line.
Here's what could happen from each result this weekend.
Ottawa Charge vs. Toronto Sceptres
- If the Ottawa Charge win in regulation or overtime/shootout, they'll secure a playoff spot. That spot will be third if Boston loses in regulation, fourth if Boston wins.
- If the Toronto Sceptres win in regulation, they would temporarily move into first overall. If Montreal loses in regulation, a Toronto regulation win would give Toronto first overall. If Montreal earns a point in their game, they would secure first.
Minnesota Frost vs. Boston Fleet
- If the Boston Fleet win in regulation or overtime/shootout, both Boston and Ottawa will qualify for the playoffs, with Boston finishing third and Ottawa finishing fourth. Minnesota in this scenario, would be eliminated.
- If Minnesota wins, and the Ottawa Charge lose in regulation, Minnesota would qualify for the playoffs. If Minnesota wins in regulation and Ottawa loses in regulation or overtime, Minnesota would finish third. If Minnesota wins in overtime/shootout, Ottawa would need to lose in regulation for the Frost to make the playoffs.
Montreal Victoire vs. New York Sirens
- It is the least impactful game of the day, and the last game of the day. If Montreal earns a point, they'll finish first overall.
- The New York Sirens have already earned the top draft order position among existing teams.
