The Minnesota Whitecaps have re-signed defender Patti Marshall to a two-year contract.

Two-time PHF all-star defender Patti Marshall, 25, has signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Whitecaps, remaining with the team. Financial terms were not disclosed.

“I’m super excited to be returning to such a great organization for the next two years. I love playing in my home state, especially with my friends and family around,” Marshall said in a team press release. “After making the Isobel Cup final last year, I’m excited to get back on the ice with the girls and bring Izzy home to Richfield this season.”

Marshall was second among Whitecaps defenders in scoring last season collecting 12 points in 24 games, and added three assists in three playoff games.

“Patti had a good season last year and I only expect her to keep getting better every year,” said general manager Chi-Yin Tse. “She was a quarterback on our powerplay and offered a different look - I expect that she’ll be doing something similar this year and that we’ll see more rushes from her at even strength.”

A former captain of Team USA's U-18 national team and for the University of Minnesota, Marshall spent one season in the SDHL following her NCAA career before signing with Minnesota. She earned two gold and a silver as a member of USA's national U-18 program.

“Patti is the nicest person you’ll ever meet off the ice,” said general manager Chi-Yin Tse. “Honestly, I don’t think that changes when she’s on the ice, as we saw her set up her friends for some nice goals. She brings character and leadership on the back end and in the locker room. I’m very excited to see how she’ll work with this crew.”

The signing of Marshall brings Minnesota's roster to 18 players.
