After five seasons of high school hockey and five seasons of NCAA hockey at the University of Minnesota, Abigail Boreen had no plans to league the state of Minnesota.

That's why her signing with the PHF's Minnesota Whitecaps made sense.

"It has always been home for me since I started playing youth hockey in Minnesota, which further down the road led to a collegiate career at the University of Minnesota,”  said Boreen in a team press release. “The state continues to grow and promote women's hockey, which is great to be a part of.”

A third-team all-WCHA star this season, Boreen had 21 goals and 36 points in 36 games for Minnesota. In 2021-2022 she scored a career high 25 goals and 59 points in 39 games with the Golden Gophers.

“She will be a great asset on our front end and is another player that has been in high pressure situations. She transitions well and will match our speed up and down the ice,” said Whitecaps general manager Chi-Yin Tse.

Tse recently signed Boreen's University of Minnesota linemate Catherine Skaja. The duo can now be re-united to regain their chemistry.

“Her presence in the offensive zone is going to be fun to watch. I’ve never seen her not go to the net; she will wear down opposing players - especially if she’s reunited with her collegiate linemate, Skaja,” he said.
