PWHL New York announced their leadership group at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan Thursday, naming Micah Zandee-Hart as the inaugural captain, and forward Alex Carpenter and defender Ella Shelton as our alternate captains.

In the heart of New York City at the steps to The Rink at Rockefeller Center, PWHL New York named their inaugural leadership group naming Canadian defender Micah Zandee-Hart the team's first captain.
Zandee-Hart, 26, was one of New York's initial players signed to a three-year contract prior to the PWHL Draft. The British Columbia product has strong ties to the state of New York having played her NCAA hockey with Cornell, located in Ithaca, New York. Zandee-Hart has both Olympic and World Championship gold to her resume, and captained both Canada's U-18 national team and Cornell. She had three assists in 20 PWHPA games this season with Team Sonnet, and has eight assists in 28 career international games for Canada.
She's joined in the leadership group by fellow Team Canada defender Ella Shelton, who was New York's first round pick in the PWHL Draft. Shelton, a 5-foot-8 defender from Ingersoll, Ontario has been a member of Canada's national team since 2020-2021 winning Olympic gold, two World Championship golds and a silver.
The final member of New York's leadership is alternate captain Alex Carpenter. Carpenter signed with New York at the same time as Zandee-Hart. The 29-year-old has six World Championship gold medals and two silver, and a pair of Olympic silver medals to her resume. Last season Carpenter had 11 points in 20 games for Team Scotiabank in the PWHPA. The former Patty Kazmaier winner with Boston College spent four seasons playing with Kunlan and KRS Vanke Rays before the PWHPA this past season. She's scored more than a point per game in two straight World Championships including nine points in seven games this year.
New York opens their PWHL season in the inaugural PWHL game on January 1 in Toronto.
