It was, largely, the night of the goalie across the American Hockey League on Saturday.
Six teams - Toronto, Abbotsford, Iowa, Providence, Hershey, and Utica - earned shutouts, with Marlies netminder Dennis Hildeby earning his second straight shutout.
Max Sassons (Abbotsford), Simon Nemec (Utica), Ruslan Iskhakov (Bridgeport), Jack Rathbone (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton), Mitchell Chaffe (Syracuse) and Maxim Groshev (Syracuse) all put together multi-goal performances, while Hershey moved to 8-2 in their past 10 games to take the lead-league.
In contrast, the Chicago Wolves continued their rough start falling to 1-6-1-1 with only six points in nine games, while the Condors dropped their third straight and second consecutive four-goal game. Jack Campbell once again allowed four goals against, this time on 26 shots.
Elsewhere in the NHL, Dustin Wolf made his long-awaited 2023-24 debut with the Flames, starting hot early before Calgary coughed up back-to-back goals within two minutes in the third period, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Senators. Martin Pospisil contributed his first NHL assist on a Blake Coleman tally to continue his four-game point streak, while Connor Zary logged a strong 16:22 of ice time.
Hunter Shepard had a much improved second NHL outing, backstopping the Capitals to a 4-1 win over the struggling New York Islanders. Sheppard, the MVP of the 2022-24 Hershey Bears, stopped 36 of 37 shots in the contest for his second win in his second appearance with the Capitals.
