Danila Klimovich scored 10 minutes into the second overtime giving the Abbotsford Canucks a Game 1 win over the Charlotte Checkers in the Calder Cup Finals.

Max Sasson opened the scoring for the Canucks on the powerplay before Charlotte answered back with goals by MacKenzie Entwistle and Oliver Okuliar.

Justin Sourdif extended the Checkers' lead in the second before Nate Smith brought the Canucks back within one just 22 seconds later. Ty Mueller continued his strong recent play with a game tying goal in the third.

The first overtime had back and forth action, including Abbotsford killing off two penalties.

An incredibly bizarre scene occurred early in the second overtime. The referees dropped the puck before Silovs was ready, while he was facing away from the play Ty Mueller won the faceoff directly into the Canucks net, appearing to win the game for Charlotte on an own goal. After the referees convened they overturned the goal.

Klimovich then slipped the overtime winner past Kahkonen on the powerplay after Mikulas Hovorka took a delay of game penalty.

Silovs and Sammy Blais were key players for the Canucks, Sourdif and Trevor Carrick had standouts performances for the Checkers.

Game 2 gets underway at 4pm EST/1pm PT on Sunday June 15 in Charlotte.
