League says the technology will help optimize the 1,152 game schedule
The American Hockey League announced they have entered a partnership with Fastbreak.ai, an AI-driven sports scheduling technology company.
The AHL says the technology will help the league optimize its 1,152 games schedule by assisting with logistics, finances, fair travel, and competitive integrity.
Fastbreak made a similar deal with the NBA in January 2024 to help with their scheduling, as well as with the WNBA, G-League, and NBA2K League.
Melissa Caruso, who previously handled many of the AHL's scheduling duties, was recently hired by the PWHL's Minnesota Frost to be their general manager.
Alison Izzi was promoted to succeed her as Vice President of Hockey Operations/Governance, while Hayley Moore was promoted to Executive Vice President, Hockey Operations.
With 32 teams, a 72-game regular season, and a unique 23-team, five-round playoff structure the AHL presents unique scheduling conflicts.
Additionally, the majority of AHL games are played on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, posing challenges with efficient travel.
