The Calgary Flames announced they have assigned forward Rory Kerins to their AHL affiliate Calgary Wranglers.
The 22-year-old made his NHL debut on Jan. 13 against the Chicago Blackhawks and recorded two assists. He has four assists and is a +3 in five games with the Flames while averaging 12:14 of ice time per game.
Kerins was leading the AHL in goals and sat second in points when he was recalled on Jan. 10. He has 21 goals and 34 points in 34 games in with the Wranglers this season.
This is a somewhat surprising move from the Flames given the depth offense Kerins can provide and the stellar goal scoring ability he has shown in the minors, especially after the Flames lost Walker Duehr on waivers last week.
The Wranglers sit atop the AHL's Pacific Division and lead the league in goals for with 158, 18 more than the next closest team. Kerins will immediately slot back onto the team's top line.
