Calgary Wranglers forward and captain Brett Sutter has announced his retirement from professional hockey after 17 seasons.
The 37-year-old will transition to a role behind the bench as the Wranglers announce Sutter will immediately join the team as an assistant coach.
Sutter is a proven leader, aside from captaining the Wranglers the past two seasons he previously served as captain for the Ontario Reign from 2017-18 through 2021-22, and with the Charlotte Checkers from 2011-12 through 2013-14.
Sutter retires having played 1090 games, the fourth most in AHL history.
In his 17 seasons in the AHL Sutter recorded 198 goals and 463 points, as well as 33 points in 69 career Calder Cup playoff games. He also had 10 points in 60 career NHL games with Calgary, the Carolina Hurricanes, and Minnesota Wild.
Son of former Calgary Flames coach Darryl Sutter, Brett was able to play for his father during his first time coaching the club, and signed a minor league deal when his father returned to coach the Flames a second time.
