33-year-old will be Head Coach of Savannah Ghost Pirates

The Savannah Ghost Pirates of the ECHL have announced that they have hired former Charlotte Checkers Assistant Coach Jared Staal as their new Head Coach.

The 33-year old was an assistant and associate coach with the ECHL's Orlando Solar Bears for three seasons before coaching as an assistant with AHL Charlotte for the last two years.

Savannah finished 21st of 27 teams in the ECHL last season and hope Staal can help turn them into contenders.

Brother of NHLers Eric, Jordan, and Marc Staal, Jared was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NHL draft, skating in two career NHL games for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Staal played parts of nine professional seasons split between the AHL, ECHL, and EIHL before transitioning to coaching.
