Texas Stars captain Curtis McKenzie scored his fifth goal of the playoffs just over two minute into overtime to secure a game five win over the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL Western Conference Final.
McKenzie's first point of the series came at the perfect time for Texas who had a hard time producing high-danger chances on Arturs Silovs in game five.
The series has been incredibly tight, with game one going to overtime, game two ending 1-0, game four going to double overtime, and now game five going to overtime.
AHL Rookie of the Year Justin Hryckowian continued his incredible run by scoring his ninth of the playoffs in the first. He is now tied with Linus Karlsson for the playoff lead in goals and sits one point back of teammate Cameron Hughes for the lead in points.
Canucks winger Arshdeep Bains scored his first of the playoffs to tie the game early in the third, he now has 12 points in 17 playoff games.
Stars goaltender Magnus Hellberg came on in relief for Remi Poirier in game four and got the start in game five. He did not seem phased by the pressure and recorded 30 saves on 31 shots.
Silovs continued his stellar play for Abbotsford, even picking up an assist on Bains' goal. He has a .923 SP and one shutout in the series.
Game six will be 6pm PDT on Sunday June 8 in Abbotsford.
The winner of the series will take on the Charlotte Checkers in the Calder Cup Final.
