Veteran goaltender will form a solid duo with Remi Poirier in AHL

The Dallas Stars announced they have signed goaltender Magnus Hellberg to a one-year, two way contract for the 2024-25 season.

He appeared in three games for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season and played well with a .922 SV%. Hellberg finished the season with the Charlotte Checkers and had a 5-2 record with a .898 SV%.

In 218 career AHL appearances with four different franchises Hellberg has a 100-83-22 record with a 2.52 GAA and .913 SV%.

Hellberg was originally selected in the second round of the 2011 draft by the Nashville Predators. He began his North American career with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2012-13.

His professional career took him to the KHL for five seasons where he put up a 81-64-14 record with a 2.00 GAA and .927 SV%, he also had a remarkable 16-4 record in 20 KHL playoff games. Hellberg has appeared in 26 total NHL games and has a 3.08 GAA and .890 SV%.

Hellberg won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2018 IIHF World Championship, he also backstopped his country at the 2022 Olympics and World Championship, finishing with a 5-1 record over the two tournaments.

With fantastic size and a breadth of professional experience, Hellberg is a great third option for Dallas and he will form a formidable duo in AHL Texas with Remi Poirier.
