Hendrix Lapierre and Hunter Shepard leading the way for Hershey

The defending Calder Cup champion Hershey Bears are on the brink of advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight year.

The Bears are up 2-0 in their best of five series against the Hartford Wolf Pack, outscoring their opponents 10-3 in two games.

Hershey finished atop the AHL with a record of 53-14-5 and 111 points. Their 53 wins are the most in an AHL season since the season has been 72 games.

Hendrix Lapierre has carried over his strong play from the playoffs with Washington and scored four points in two games against Hartford. Ivan Miroshnichenko has three goals in the series.

Hunter Shepard has only faced 38 shots over two games but has a .921 save percentage.

Unfortunately for Hartford regular starting goalie Dylan Garand was called up by the New York Rangers and missed Game 1, the Bears went on to win 6-1.

Given the Bears did not lose back-to-back games in regulation this season the Wolfpack have an uphill battle.

Hershey won back-to-back Calder Cups in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
