21-year-old will join AHL Wild for his rookie season

The Iowa Wild announced they have signed forward Matthew Sop to a one-year, one-way AHL contract.

Sop recorded 43 goals and 90 points in 67 games for the OHL's Kitchener Rangers this season before adding six more points in 10 playoff games.

The 21-year-old finished his OHL career with 169 points in 203 games and 14 in 30 playoff games. He also took home the Leo Lalonde Trophy as the OHL's top overage player.

After missing what would have been his OHL rookie season because of the pandemic Sop missed out on a year of development, he will look to grow and help provide offense on an Iowa team that had trouble putting the puck in the net this season.

The 21-year-old attended Toronto Maple Leafs development camp last offseason before returning to Kitchener.
