With two third period goals against the Ontario Reign on Apr. 16 Jacob MacDonald has set the AHL record for most goals in a season by a defenseman with 31.

The Colorado Eagles defender passes the previous record of 30 set by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman and AHL Hall of Famer John Slaney in the 1999-2000 season.

The 32-year-old MacDonald leads the Eagles in goals and is second on the team with 55 points in 62 games. He leads all AHL blueliners in points.

MacDonald's goal scoring prowess is not new, he led the AHL in goals (16) and points (55) by defensemen in the 2019-20 season, and again led defenders in goals with 20 in 2017-18. This is the fifth season in his AHL career he has scored double digit goals.

The Portland, Ore., native has racked up 99 goals and 249 points in 339 career AHL games. He was named to the AHL First All-Star Team in 2018 and Second All-Star Team in 2020.

Signed to a two-year, two-way deal with the Colorado Avalanche through the 2025-26 season, MacDonald has recorded 10 goals and 27 points in 135 NHL appearances.

With the Eagles nearing a bye into the division semifinals MacDonald has two more regular season games to add to his record setting goal total.
