On yesterdays 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman reported that Ontario Reign head coach Marco Sturm has been interviewed by the San Jose Sharks for their vacant head coaching job.
Sturm was an assistant coach with the Los Angele Kings for three and a half seasons before taking on the head coaching position with their AHL affiliate Ontario Reign at the beginning of the 2022 season. He has a 76-55-13 record in 144 games coached in the AHL.
The Reign have made the playoffs in both seasons under Sturm, losing in the first round last season and the second round this season.
The 45-year-old had an extensive playing career, recording 487 points in 938 career NHL games for six franchises, including 273 points in 553 games for San Jose.
Sturm was originally selected 21st overall by the Sharks in the 1996 NHL draft.
Former AHL head coaches Ryan Warsofsky and Jeff Blashill are also contenders for the job.
