Veteran of 1039 NHL games joins Ducks organization

The San Diego Gulls announced they have hired Bret Hedican as a Player Development Analyst.

Originally selected in the 10th round of the 1988 NHL draft by the St. Louis Blues, Hedican carved out a 17-year career where he played 1039 games and recorded 294 points for five franchises, winning the Stanley Cup in 2006 with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Hedican finished his career with the Anaheim Ducks in 2009, and has spent his time as a member of the San Jose Sharks broadcast team since. He was also the video coach for Team USA and the 2013 Women's World Championship, helping the team win gold.

Known as a physical, defensive defenseman during his playing days, Hedican will bring a breadth of experience to the Ducks organization and help develop players with the Gulls.

The 53-year-old Hedican played in three Stanley Cup Finals, two Olympics, and three World Championships.
