The San Jose Sharks announced they have assigned goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to their AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda and recalled defenseman Jack Thompson.
Askarov has made two starts for the Sharks, recording his first win with the franchise in a 7-2 blowout over the Los Angeles Kings yesterday. He also picked up a secondary assist.
The 22-year-old has a .927 SV% and a 1.96 GAA over his two NHL appearances this season.
This move likely signifies that Vitek Vanecek is set to return to action in the coming days. Expect to see Askarov in the Barracuda net against the Abbotsford Canucks on Nov. 29 or 30. He has a 6-3 record with two shutouts and a .939 SV% in the AHL this season.
Thompson has been solid on the Sharks blueline this season, he has notched two goals and five points in 13 games, averaging 15:55 of time on ice.
A third round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020, Thompson came over in a trade for Anthony Duclair last season.
The 22-year-old posted 32 points in 46 games with the Syracuse Crunch and nine in 16 games with the Barracuda last season, he has yet to dress in the AHL this season.
