The Seattle Kraken announced they have re-sign forward John Hayden to a one-year, one-way contract for $775,000.
Hayden earns another chance in the NHL after posting 37 points and 290 penalty minutes in 249 career games across five franchises.
The 29-year-old had a slightly down regular season in the AHL compared to his first year with Coachella Valley, recording 15 goals and 26 points in 65 games.
Hayden's game really came on in the Calder Cup Playoffs, he led the team in goals with nine and posted 13 points in 18 games. Eventually the team lost in the finals to the Hershey Bears for the second season in a row.
Originally a third round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, Hayden has shown offensive flashes in college, where he had 91 points in 127 career games with Yale University, and the AHL, 76 points in 136 career games.
A big body who loves physical play, Hayden will have an opportunity to play bottom-six minutes with the Kraken, and could help the Firebirds try to reach the Calder Cup Final for the third year in a row should he get sent down.
