The AHL has announced that Syracuse Crunch forward Maxim Groshev has been suspended 10 games for using what the league deemed 'racially sensitive language' to an opponent.
The incident occurred in a Mar. 1 game against the Rochester Americans. Groshev was not penalized during the game and scored in the shootout.
The 23-year-old has already served one game of the suspension, he will be eligible to return for Syracuse's game Mar. 30 against Rochester.
In their official statement the AHL notes that Groshev will be eligible to work with the NHL's Player Inclusion Coalition to receive an education on racism and inclusion. The player can apply for reduction and reinstatement after eight games served based on his progress with the Player Inclusion Coalition.
A third round pick of the Lightning in 2020, Groshev has five goals and 11 points in 46 games for the Crunch this season.
