    The Texas Stars announced they have hired Toby Petersen as the team's new head coach.

    Petersen spent the previous two seasons as a skills coach for the Colorado Avalanche.

    Prior to his time in Colorado Petersen spent six seasons as an assistant coach in the AHL. He was a member of the Rochester Americans for three seasons from 2017-2020, the Cleveland/Lake Erie Monsters from 2015-2017, and the Springfield Falcons for the 2014-15 season. 

    The 46-year-old captured the 2016 Calder Cup with the Monsters and the 2014 Calder Cup with Texas as a player. He also lost in the 2001 and 2004 Calder Cup Finals as a player. 

    Former Texas Stars head coach Neil Graham was promoted last week to join Glen Gulutzan's new  staff with the Dallas Stars. 

    As a player Petersen recorded 148 goals and 374 points in 550 career AHL games. He was named to the 2001 AHL All-Rookie Team and was an All-Star in 2001 and 2008. 

    The Minneapolis, Minn., native notched 81 points in 398 career NHL games. He was a member of the Dallas Stars from 2007-2013 and a full-time member of the Texas Stars from 2012-2014, esrrving as an assistant captain.

    Petersen represented Team USA at the 2007 World Championship and was named one of the top three players on the team. 

    Travis Morin and Max Fortunus will remain as assistants, Ryan Daniels remains as goaltending coach and Josh Johnson retains his role as video coach.
