The Toronto Maple Leafs announced they have signed defenseman John Prokop to a one-year deal that begins in 2025-26, he will join the Toronto Marlies on an Amateur Tryout for the remainder of this season.

Prokop had eight goals and 19 assists in 37 games for the NCAA's Union College Garnet Chargers.

The 23-year-old recorded 20 goals and 65 assists in 107 career games over three seasons with Union College. He was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team in 2023, the ECAC First All-Star Team and the NCAA East Second All-American Team in 2024.

The Wausau, Wis., native's contract will pay him $85,000 at the AHL level and $875,000 at the NHL level.

A 6'3, left-handed shot defenseman, Prokop is a good two-way defender and will join a crowded Marlies blueline as the team gears up for a Calder Cup Playoff run.

If all goes according to plan he will be the 16th different defenseman to play in a game for the Marlies this season.
