Two-time Stanley Cup champ remains in leadership role with Marlies

The Toronto Marlies have re-signed veteran forward Kyle Clifford to an AHL contract, per The Hockey News' Jacob Stoller

The 33-year-old has 21 goals and 51 points in 110 career AHL games, 108 of which have come with Toronto. He also has 14 points in 17 career Calder Cup Playoff games.

An assistant captain last season, Clifford serves in an leadership role with the Marlies and remains one of the toughest players in the league, racking up 140 penalty minutes in 53 regular season games and 25 in three playoff games.

The Kitchener, ON, native has played 753 regular season NHL games with the Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and Toronto Maple Leafs, where he recorded 144 points and 905 penalty minutes.

He has another 65 games of NHL playoff experience, winning the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup with the Kings where he played a big part of the teams bruising style.

Clifford joined the Leafs organization in a trade with the Kings along with Jack Campbell in exchange for Trevor Moore and two third-round picks in 2020. After signing a contract with the St. Louis Blues he was traded back to Toronto for future considerations in 2021.

Depending on how things shake out at Leafs training camp Clifford likely occupies the fifth veteran spot on the Marlies as he has played well over 320 professional games.
