The Toronto Marlies announced they have hired Steve Sullivan as an assistant on John Gruden's coaching staff.
The 50-year-old worked as a development coach and director of player personnel with the Arizona Coyotes before serving as Assistant General Manager from 2017-2021. During that time he was General Manager of the AHL's Tucson Roadrunners.
Sullivan joins Gruden it what will be his second season as Marlies head coach, Hannu Toivonen remains as goaltending coach while Michael Dyck remains as assistant.
The Timmins, ON, native had a lengthy playing career, after being selected in the ninth round of the 1994 draft by the New Jersey Devils Sullivan went on the play 1011 games and recorded 747 points, winning the 2009 Bill Masterton Trophy.
His playing career also included parts of three seasons with the AHL's Albany River Rats where he notched 171 points in 143 games. He won the 1995 Calder Cup, skated in the All-Star Game twice, and was a First Team All-Star once.
The Marlies finished fourth in the North Division last season and lost in three games in the first round to the Belleville Senators.
Former assistant coach Eric Wellwood was not mentioned in the press release, and it appears he will not be back behind the bench.
