The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have added defenseman Brent Johnson on an Amateur Tryout (ATO) per the AHL Transactions page.
Johnson recorded five goals and 13 points in 38 games with the Ohio State Buckeyes and two points in three games with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers this season.
The 22-year-old played two NCAA seasons with the University of Dakota before transferring to Ohio State, he finished his NCAA career with 13 goals and 35 points in 111 games.
Originally a third round pick of the Washington Capitals in 2021, Johnson signed an ECHL contract with the Nailers in early April after Ohio State lost to Boston University in the NCAA Regionals.
The Penguins have clinched a Calder Cup Playoff spot and Johnson will provide valuable depth for their playoff roster. His first chance to make his AHL debut comes Apr. 18 against the Hershey Bears.
