Analyzing contenders for the NHL's 2024-25 Presidents' Trophy

Analyzing contenders for the NHL's 2024-25 Presidents' Trophy

Predicting 2024-25 NHL Presidents’ Trophy Winner

The Presidents trophy is awarded every year to the team who finishes with the most points through the regular season.

The New York Rangers are the current title holders as they finished last season with a record of 55-23-4 due to their stellar mix of offence and defence as well as a top three power play.

The chances of predicting next years winner will be very tough but we do have some early signs that could help us create a fairly decent estimated guess.

A team adding better players always helps give us an idea of who will be near the top of the league next year. Another key factor we should pay attention to is division alignment and strength of schedule.

    Bet: Edmonton Oilers (+600 - Bet365)

Right now, the Oilers are the favourites to win the Presidents trophy after making it all the way to the Stanley Cup Final before losing to the Florida Panthers.

Edmonton, Vancouver and other top tier West teams are towards the bottom of difficulty in their schedules as their conference has more than one weak team.

The Oilers have 18 games next season split between games against the likes of Anaheim, San Jose, Chicago, Columbus, Montreal and Calgary. This gives them the projected easiest strength of schedule next season, according to Tankathon.

They also made improvements to the team’s top nine forwards like adding Viktor Arvidsson, Jeff Skinner and Matt Savoie to the lineup while limiting big losses to just Warren Foegele and Ryan McLeod.

    Bet: Vancouver Canucks (+2500 - Bet365)

The Canucks had a stellar breakout season in 2023 and will look to build on it with another solid campaign.

They did lose key pieces in Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm to Boston in free agency but did add in response former Bruin Jake DeBrusk and impact winger from Detroit, Daniel Sprong.

The two combined for 37 goals and 83 points which outnumbers the 64 points they are losing from the pair of new Bruins.

They will also get an improved backup netminder with Arturs Silovs breaking out when the team needed him to in the playoffs and inserting himself as Thatcher Demko’s new backup.

Vancouver will play 19 games against the group of teams mentioned to play Edmonton which could turn out to be one more additional key win towards their potential Presidents trophy run.
