The Colorado Avalanche And San Jose Sharks Swap Starting Goalies

The availability followed a trade announcement on Monday, sending goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, forward Nikolai Kovalenko, a 2025 5th-round pick, and a 2026 2nd-round pick to the San Jose Sharks. In exchange, the Avalanche received goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, forward Givani Smith, and a 2027 5th-round pick.

The San Jose Sharks dealt Mackenzie Blackwood to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goaltender Alexandar Georgiev, forward Nikolai Kovalenko, Colorado's 2026 second-round pick, and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025. Colorado will retain 14% of Georgiev's contract as part of the deal.

Kovalenko and goaltender Alexandar Georgiev were delayed in leaving Pittsburgh after they were traded from the Colorado Avalanche yesterday. Georgiev will be Vitek Vanecek's backup goalie against the Carolina Hurricanes.
