The Allen Americans have identified their new head coach after parting with then-head coach Chad Costello two weeks ago. The Americans formally announced B.J. Adams as the franchise's Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations.

“We are very excited to have B.J. Adams as our new Head Coach,” said Americans Owner La Sonjia Jack in a statement. “He is a great fit for our players, the community, and our organization. Adams comes with a breadth of experience, from his playing history and years as a fearless coach. Here’s to chasing victories and crafting champions together!”

“I’m very excited, thrilled and humbled to lead the Allen Americans, one of the premier organizations in the ECHL," noted B.J. Adams in the same statement. “I would like to thank Myles and LaSonjia Jack, Joe Ernst from Zawyer Sports Group, Jonny Mydra, and Kevin Sikes-Gilbert, for entrusting me with this opportunity to get the Americans back to where they belong. My family and I are ecstatic to be joining the Allen community.”

Adams, 48, comes to the ECHL after serving as head coach of the Erie Otters (Ontario Hockey League) for part of two seasons. The Scarborough, Ontario, native joined the Otters as an assistant coach prior to the 2015-16 season. He was promoted to head coach during the 2021-22 season, but the organization parted ways with him in January 2023. Prior to his time in the Ontario Hockey League, Adams was an assistant coach at Canisius College for five seasons.

As a player, Adams spent four years at Bowling Green, where he amassed eight goals and 27 points from the blueline. Following his senior season, he joined the Milwaukee Admirals for four games. Adams spent time in the ECHL with the Toledo Storm and Pee Dee Pride. He also played for the Rockford IceHogs (UHL), Odessa Jackalopes (CHL), Port Huron Flags (UHL), and Port Huron Icehawks (IHL).
